In honor of #blackbotanistsweek , let’s talk about botany!
🌱
Botany is the scientific study of plants and a branch of biology.

Plants are living organisms that provide oxygen and energy for the ecosystems they’re in. Plants get their energy from sunlight through photosynthesis and nutrients from the soil.
🌱
All other organisms in the ecosystem get their energy from plants, either by eating them (herbivores), eating plant eaters (carnivores), or both (omnivores). Organisms depend on the oxygen that plants produce through photosynthesis.
🌱
Botanists study trees, flowers, pollens, fungi, plant structure, reproduction, disease, human-interaction, and evolution! There are disciplines within botany as well, including:
🌿Ethnobotany – human and plant interaction
🌿Paleobotany – fossilized plants
🌿Plant Ecology – plant roles and environment interaction
🌱
Botanists can work in a variety of fields. Some jobs botanists might have include:
🍃Park ranger
🍃Environmental consultant
🍃Biotechnology
🍃Conservation biologist
🍃Soil scientist
🍃Agronomist
🌱
Who are some botanists you follow? How did you get interested in botany?
