Engineering Week, or EWeek, is dedicated to ensuring a diverse engineering field! I have so much pride in my field and am so excited to continue in my career towards becoming a professional engineer!
To kick off the week, I want to share my own engineering story!I started out as a bioengineer and wanted to do medical research to find a cure for ALS after seeing how it affected a dear family friend. Unfortunately, it took me until my junior year to realize … biology is not that exciting to me?? Luckily, I realized this because I had begun taking an environmental engineering class and just fell in love with the material! I switched to environmental engineering and was so excited to see how much chemical, bio, mechanical, and civil engineering was still involved! For my capstone engineering project, I used my material science background to develop a living wall that was capable of reducing urban air pollution. For me, environmental engineering is so deeply entwined in global and public health.
After graduation, I started doing environmental remediation work and really enjoyed getting to do both research and field work. I started to shift towards civil engineering after spending months on a construction site and I’ve been a project manager ever since!
What’s your field?
