This year, we learned at a great cost the importance of public health. To be a scientist, begging your grandma to please stay home while your uncle stood on his Facebook soapbox calling masks the problem… it’s exhausting begging people to have some respect for other people.
The biggest pushback came because I’m not a doctor. They’re right, I had no interest going down the MD path (partially because I didn’t have patience for patients like them). But I did have a minor in global health and understand how epidemics impact communities.
Honestly, I know that even if I was a MD, I would still get pushback. But science doesn’t care what you believe in – it’s meant to be objective.
I want to know about your field! What’s your favorite part of what you study?
