Julia Morgan was an American engineer and architect who designed hundreds of buildings in California during her career. Julia earned her degree in civil engineering from UC Berkeley at a time when women weren’t accepted in STEM or getting STEM degrees. Her mentor encouraged and helped her to apply into the École des Beaux-Arts, a prestigious architecture school in Paris, where she became the first woman to earn a degree in architecture from the school. When Julia returned to California, she became the first woman to be granted an architect’s license in the state. Julia was an also activist for women’s equality throughout her lifetime.
