Dr. Ellie Sattler is one of the main characters of Jurassic Park, in which she plays a paleobotanist visiting an amusement park created by a billionaire using science to reanimated the extinct dinosaurs that go on to break free from their enclosures. Using her training, Ellie is able to identify dinosaurs the group comes into contact with and plan how to best handle each situation. Rather than being a damsel in distress of dinosaurs, Ellie is a strong and intelligent character who can be both compassionate (she tries to cure a sick triceratops) and brave (she does rescue Jeff Goldblum). Ellie is happy to be hands on and her career as a scientist is clear, as she’s often referred to as an expert in her field!

With the new Jurassic Park movie being released this week, it’s important to look back on how the original movie gave us a strong woman driven and involved in her field of science!
